Event, News Update | 04/08/2025

On 18 July 2025, the Department of Planning and Investment (DPI) of Savannakhet Province convened a NIPN Savannakhet planning meeting at its meeting room. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Keopaserth Sourinphumy, Deputy Director General of the department, and brought together 31 participants from key provincial sectors including Health, Education, and Agriculture. Representatives from development partners such as Catholic Relief Services (CRS), JSI, and Community Development Association (CoDA), as well as UNICEF, also participated to provide support and monitor the meeting’s implementation. Additionally, NIPN central teams, both DAU and PAU, attended virtually to provide technical assistance.

The meeting focused on two primary objectives:

  1. Review and reach consensus on a set of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive indicators from relevant sectors to be reported and published on the National Information Platform for Nutrition (NIPN) website.
  2. Discuss and finalize the provincial workplan for the remaining three quarters — Q3 and Q4 of 2025 and Q1 of 2026.

Beyond the core agenda, participants engaged in productive discussions emphasizing the importance of high-quality and effective nutrition data to inform policies and reflect the nutrition situation in the province. The dialogue also highlighted the sustainability of the NIPN initiative, demonstrating participants’ strong commitment to continuing their contributions toward reducing malnutrition in Savannakhet province.

As a key outcome, it was agreed that follow-up coordination will be carried out with relevant sectors to refine the list of indicators. Moreover, additional training and dissemination activities are suggested to be organized at both provincial and district levels to ensure consistency in nutrition data across the province. The draft work plan, agreed upon during the meeting, will undergo further review by NIPN at the central level and UNICEF before implementation begins.
