Data Analysis Unit – Quarter III intensive training

The Data Analysis Unit (DAU) held the third intensive training at the Academy Hotel in Vangvieng district, Vientiane province from 6 – 9 August 2024. Mr. Viengkhone Buaphachanh, Director of the division, and Dr. Nelofar Sheikh, Data Analysis advisor for NIPN, co-chaired the opening session.

This training was continuation of the first training focusing on the hands-on process of conducting research using theoretical knowledge gained in past trainings. Participants were grouped from different sectors to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. Each group was led by a designated group leader, identified as a potential trainer for future subnational training.

The training aimed at teaching participants to create do.file (a list of commands) and code book. Each group was tasked with developing do.file, code book and running descriptive analysis for their research topic. On day four, all groups presented their work. Future training sessions will cover inferential data analysis and reporting of the results. Selected topics may be chosen for dissemination.

In closing of the four-day training, Dr. Sitthiroth Rasphone, Director General of the Development Research Institute emphasized the importance of increasing participants’ capacities in terms of data analysis, power point presentation and ability to present their work. Additionally, to encourage participants to prepare for their future roles as trainers to analyze routine data at the subnational level.
