The final workshop in the 2024 research training series was successfully held from 13 to 15 May 2025 in Vangvieng District, Vientiane Province. This workshop marked the completion of a year-long capacity-building initiative focused on “Data Analysis and Report Writing.”

The opening session was chaired by Mr. Viengkhone Bouaphachanh, Deputy Director General of the DRI. This final stage concentrated on assisting participants in translating their data analysis results into clear, well-structured research reports, guided by the international consultant of the DAU.

Participants were divided into four groups based on pre-assigned research topics, which included: (1) Factors influencing early marriage and its impacts on stunting in children aged 6-59 months in Lao PDR: a study in Bokeo, Phongsaly, Huaphan, and Salavan provinces for Group 1; (2) Positive determinants contributing to the prevention of child stunting: a study in Bokeo Province for Group 2; (3) Factors influencing vitamin A intake of Laotian children aged 6-59 months in the dry and rainy seasons for Group 3; and (4) Determining the factors affecting underweight in children aged 6-23 months in Huaphan Province for Group 4. New attendees were integrated into these existing teams. To support the development of high-quality policy recommendations, consultants from the policy analysis unit of the Social Policy Research Institute (SPRI) were invited to provide technical guidance.

The topics taught in the training consist mainly of:

  • Preparing the title page and abstract
  • Drafting the introduction and methodology
  • Writing the results and discussion
  • Suggesting policy recommendations based on research findings

Over the three-day session, participants worked intensively on drafting their reports. On the final day, each group presented their findings and the progress made on the results developed during the training.

The closing session was chaired and officially concluded by Dr. Sitthiroth Rasphone, Director General of the DRI, who commended the participants’ efforts and emphasised the importance of evidence-based policy formation through data analysis.
