An intensive training for the Policy Analysis Unit was held at the Thavisouk Hotel in Vang Vieng, Vientiane Province, from 21st to 24th May 2024. The four-day training introduced participants to qualitative thinking and a qualitative approach to research and equipped them with knowledge to plan and conduct selected qualitative research methods.
As participants went through this training, they learned how to understand and describe the theoretical and methodological assumptions underlying qualitative research, distinguish between quantitative and qualitative approaches to research and data, formulate qualitative research questions, and recognize when and where to use qualitative research methods.
A follow-up training in which participants will learn how to make practical and logistical decisions in preparation for undertaking qualitative research and develop and apply basic study instruments for collecting qualitative data will be planned later in the year.
