Second intensive training for second quarter 2024 of data analysis unit

The Data Analysis Unit (DAU) held the second intensive training at the Academy Hotel in Vangvieng district, Vientiane province from 28 to 31 May 2024. Mr. Viengkhone Buaphachanh, Director of the division, and Dr. Nelofar Shiekh, Data Analysis advisor for NIPN, co-chaired the opening session.

For the first time, the training focused on the hands-on process of conducting research using their theoretical knowledge gained in previous training. Participants were grouped from different sectors to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. Each group was led by a designated group leader, identified as a potential trainer for future subnational training.

The training centered on research question formulation using mind mapping technique, conducting literature review, and selection of data source to answer their research question. Each group was tasked with developing their own research topic. The future training sessions will cover data analysis and presentation of the results. Selected topics may be chosen for dissemination.

In closing of the four-day training, Dr. Sitthiroth Rasphone, Director General of the Development Research Institute emphasized the importance of increasing participants’ capacities but as well as preparing group leaders for their future roles as trainers at the subnational level.
