The Policy Analysis Unit has recently completed its first round of training for sub-national actors from Khammouane, Savannakhet, Sekong, Saravane, Phongsaly, and Oudomxay Provinces.

These trainings are aimed to build the capacity of staff in the Agriculture, Health, Education, and Planning sectors to manage and analyse nutrition-related data, track progress, and use the information at the provincial level to communicate issues at the central level for strategic decisions.

The three-day training, “Introduction to Policy Analysis,” presented quickly applied basic methods for analysing and resolving policy issues. It provided an overview of the rationale for using simple policy analysis methods. It was stated that decision-makers often need answers quickly and will make decisions with available data. Policy analysts can help improve the quality of decisions by providing quick, accurate, and timely analyses.

Participants were also provided with several practical principles for beginning policy analysis, a framework for thinking about policy analysis, and a process for conducting policy analyses.

The first training was held for Phongsaly and Oudomxay Provinces at the Provincial Department of Planning and Investment in Xai District, Oudomxay Province, from 12th December to 14th December 2023.

The second training was held for Savannakhet and Khammouane Provinces at the Provincial Department of Planning and Investment in Thakhek District, Khammouane Province, from 27th March to 29th March 2024.
